The words “girlfriend” and “boyfriend” are outdated and propagates the archaic binary system. There really should be a neutral word for them that can encompass multitudes of identities and cover every single one. I’m glad the officially recognized neutral words “spouse” and “sibling” exist. It’s time for a new word.
